A documentary portrait series starting in 2019 - present, capturing women who swim in the ponds at Hampstead Heath in London. It started with one photograph of two friends at the mixed pond.
I used a mixture of digital and 120 film cameras and allowed my sitters to co-direct their own portraits, so that they felt empowered and comfortable in front of the lens, in their swimsuits.
I would often pack my towel to go for a swim after shooting. I’ve always loved being in water and really enjoyed meeting other women who do too.
Every woman I met had a different story, different jobs, were wearing different things but all had come to swim in the same place. One of my favourite places in the whole of London.
The series is ongoing, hoping to venture further afield beyond London.
